Edwardsville, Ill (KSDK) -- Some Metro East residents are being asked to conserve water because of the drought.
The Edwardsville Water Department's water conservation orders go into effect Wednesday at 7:00 a.m. until further notice.
The water department said the hot and dry conditions is putting a strain on the water treatment plant and distribution system. To lesson the strain on the equipment, customers will not be allowed to do any outdoor watering or washing between outdoor watering and or washing between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
People who live at even-numbered houses may water on even dates of the month during the permutable hours. Customers at odd-numbered houses may water on odd dates of the month, also during permutable hours.
The water conservation order does not include commercial use.
City of Edwardsville water customers, include the Village of Glen Carbon, Northeast Central Public water District and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
