Alderman Gregory Carter's desk
St. Louis, MO (KSDK) -- Grace Peal, lives on Veronica Avenue in the North Point neighborhood of North St. Louis. Her house sits across the street from Alderman Gregory Carter's. Carter was killed early Wednesday in a vehicle crash in St. Charles County.
"I'm heart sick about it...I really don't know what to say. He was wonderful, and such a help for us in this community," Peal said.
The 54-year-old alderman, is known in his ward as a man who fought for is constituents, and cared deeply for those he served.
"He meant everything...he wanted the best for his constituents," said neighbor Ann crenshaw.
Missouri Representative, Chris Carter is the nephew of Gregory Carter. He says it was his uncle that inspired him to run for public office.
"I've never seen anyone put the heart and soul into the job like Greg did," Chris Carter said.
Chris Carter says his uncle like to help the youth of the community try and get into college. He says he would like to keep his uncle's legacy alive by offering a scholarship in his name.
Services for Carter will be held Saturday, August 11. A viewing will take place at 8 a.m. at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church.
The funeral will follow at 10 a.m.
