Shrewsbury, MO (KSDK) - Police need your help in catching a "Kissing Cop." Well, maybe.

The Shrewsbury Police Department says a man in his 20s pulled over a woman like he was a police officer and kissed her.

It happened Monday evening just a few blocks from the police station on Shrewsbury Avenue near Murdoch Avenue.

Police say the woman was pulled over by a Shrewsbury officer for a headlight out and given a ticket, then moments later she was pulled over again. This time by a man who appeared to be an officer, but wasn't with Shrewsbury.

The woman says the man was dressed like an officer but didn't have a patch from a department. He was also wearing a belt with a pistol in its holster.

She got out of her car and showed him the ticket she just received, then he gently touched her face with his finger and kissed her on the cheek.

Shrewsbury police say then the man tried to kiss her on the lips, she pulled back and he said, "You can pay for this previous ticket but I'm going to let you go," and he left.

Lieutenant Brian Catlett, with the Shrewsbury Police Department says the man was in a late 90s or early 2000s Chevy Impala with flashing lights on the dash, which are unlike the new lights in Shrewsbury police units.

"We don't have any unmarked Chevy Impalas that she described and the suspect, white male in his mid-20s did not appear to be one of our officers either," said Lt. Catlett who is also checking all Metro St. Louis departments for those descriptions.

"People are imitating other people, I've heard of them imitating other officers of the law before but if I lived here I would keep an eye out," said Leonard Reinheimer, whose daughter lives in the area.

Police say the man could be from another department, with a security company, or just acquired the equipment to look like an officer.

If you have emergency lights following you, still pull over, but don't hesitate to ask for identification from the officer.

Anyone with information on this suspect's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the Shrewsbury Police Department at 314-647-5656.
