Arnold, MO (KSDK) - Inch by inch, foot by foot. The line outside an Arnold Chick-fil-A Wednesday evening snaked around the building and Amanda Johnston, at the tail end of the line, had plenty of time to mull over her menu choices.

"Waffle fries for sure," said Johnston.

But for her, and others we talked to, the food is the side item. The main dish they say is support for freedom of speech and the company's CEO. The fast food chain has been under fire for comments its CEO made on his stance against gay marriage.

Teri Elliott, one of the hundreds of Arnold customers, said, "He loves gay people. We love gay people. We just love the sanctity of marriage."

Her husband, Jay, added, "I just lifted my heart when I saw all these people here and I'm excited about it."

Matthew Sellers had time in line so, "I counted how many cars there were and there were sixty cars in line and then I counted the people in the outside, there was 150."

Leon Braxton admits he loves Chick-fil-A food. But you won't find Braxton in line. Braxton heads up The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Center of St. Louis. The lines here and around the country anger him, but also challenge him.

"Our LGBT community needs to get out and make a stronger statement about how bad we want marriage equality and how much we need and deserve marriage equality," said Braxton.

Braxton says although this movement was billed as a show of support for freedom of speech, he believes it's really a more about lack of support for gay marriage.
