Stanton, MO (KSDK) - A southwest Missouri man was killed Wednesday afternoon in a crash along westbound Interstate 44 near Stanton.
Missouri Highway Patrol troopers say Mark O'Hara, 52 of Carl Junction which is near Joplin, was a passenger in a car that went out of control to the left and struck the cable median barrier.
Officials say the vehicle continued through the barrier into the eastbound lanes of the highway and off the south side of I-44 where the sport utility vehicle then overturned into a ditch.
Investigators say O'Hara was thrown from the wreckage and pronounced dead a short time later at Mercy Hospital St. Louis.
The driver of the SUV; identified as 51 year old Phyllis O'Hara, also of Carl Junction was partially ejected from the vehicle and is hospitalized to serious condition.
Neither of the victims were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
