St. Louis (KSDK) - When it comes to love stories, it's hard to top Leo and Sara Wolf.
Growing up in Poland, their families were friends only to be torn apart by World War II.
Leo ended up in the Dachau concentration camp where he was forced to take part in a death march. He escaped with his life ten days before the war ended.
Sara somehow survived the horrors of Auschwitz.
The two met again in a displaced persons camp after the war.
They married and moved to the United States where they built a successful business in Granite City, but they never forgot their past.
They helped establish the St. Louis Holocaust Museum.
On Sunday night they were honored for their efforts.
"It's a great day for St. Louis. Kids from schools come in and we teach them that it happened and it should never happen again. Don't forget," said Leo.
"It's a big big big thing for the City of St. Louis especially the people and the kids that come every day," said Sara.
Several politicians and three generations of the Wolf family were among those who attended the ceremony.
