KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - A former state Republican leader and U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg has won the Republican primary in Missouri's 2nd Congressional District.
Unofficial results show Ann Wagner, of Ballwin, topping the four-candidate GOP slate in Tuesday's primary. In November, she will face one of four Democrats who sought their own party nomination Tuesday.
The suburban St. Louis district is Missouri's only open U.S. House seat this year. The incumbent, Congressman Todd Akin, ran instead for the GOP nomination for U.S. Senate.
Wagner is a former state Republican Party chairwoman. She also was co-chair of the Republican National Committee during former President George W. Bush's first term.
