Monroe County, IL (KSDK) - There are more reports of a stranger approaching kids in multiple Illinois neighborhoods.
Over the past month, the suspicious driver has reportedly been seen in Waterloo, Gilmore Lake Estates, and Hecker. Now we're learning about another incident between Hecker and Waterloo.
A woman who lives on Ole Still Drive called NewsChannel 5 Thursday night, saying she was working in her backyard; her children were in the front yard. The woman heard her eight-year-old son yell out the name of his five-year-old brother, so she ran to them. That's when she saw a white pickup truck pulling away. She said the man in the pickup didn't say anything or get out of the truck.
A similar incident happened earlier in the day in Hecker. Deputies got a call that a man in a white pickup truck was following a 10-year-old boy for several blocks. The child ran and the man drove off.
Everett Hamilton lives in the Gilmore Lake Estates near Columbia. Last week, a man in a white pickup truck approached his seven-year-old granddaughter, who was in front of his neighbor's house. He said the man got out of the truck and asked her a few questions and then left. When she told Hamilton what happened he tried to catch the man but was unsuccessful.
"I was very upset that he approached her. I don't know what he was attempting to do but just the fact that he got out of his car was very unusual. I think he must have had some weird motive," Hamilton said.
He said his granddaughter was never taught "stranger danger" and that's mainly because he never expected anything like this to happen in the neighborhood, but now Hamilton knows all about it.
Police ask anyone who comes across a man in his 30s to 40s driving a white pickup truck to try and get his license plate number and call them at 618-939-3377.
