St. Louis (KSDK) -- A vice presidential expert calls Mitt Romney's vice president selection a surprise and conventional.

Romney announced Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan as his VP pick Saturday morning in Norfolk, Virginia.

Joel Goldstein, of Saint Louis University Law School, said he was surprised by Romney's choice because of the controversy surrounding Ryan's budget proposal. He said it was a conventional choice because it brings together conservatives and moderate Republicans.
