Warrenton, MO (KSDK) - The Major Case Squad is concluding 22-year-old Andrew Ell died by accidentally drowning, according to preliminary autopsy results.
The initial autopsy results released early Monday afternoon are so far saying Ell drowned in a pool of water near a drainage ditch. The only other injury documented in the report was an injury to Ell's hand.
Ell was reported missing by family and friends early Saturday morning. He was found dead in Warren County. He was last seen before 1 a.m. Saturday, according to friends.
Ell's body was found Sunday afternoon around 1:30 p.m. on the north service road of Interstate 70, about half a mile west of the Warrenton exit. A search party organized by Andrew Ell's family discovered the body in a drainage ditch.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis put 18 investigators on the case.
Ell is from St. Charles County, but his last known address is Warren County.
Police said he was drinking with friends late Friday night into early Saturday, and that he stopped at a fast food restaurant, believed to be a Jack-in-the-Box. That was the last time Ell was seen.
If Ell fell from the side of the highway, investigators say it would have been about a 13 foot fall. Ell's body was discovered in about 6-to-8 inches of water.
