East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) - NewsChannel 5 has learned about a cheating scandal in the East St. Louis School District.
District 189 released an investigative report into Illinois standards achievement testing at Officer Elementary.
According to the report, a former principal gave the tests to students during a teacher's absence this spring, and the report says he allowed students to correct their wrong answers and gave them unlimited time to work on timed tests.
Those tests scores are used to determine a school's progress under the federal "No Child Left Behind Act."
The district did not respond to our request for a comment.
