Cahokia, Il. (KSDK) - Police have arrested a Cahokia man after a double shooting that left his wife dead and son hospitalized.
Police discovered the body of Tina Sumpter inside a home in the 500 block of Cooper Drive early this morning. She died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Tina's son was shot in the back, and underwent surgery at a local hospital.
Police identified Ovie Sumpter, Tina's husband, as a person of interest. He was arrested near Pevely, Missouri, several hours after the shooting.
Ovie Sumpter is charged with 1st degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery with a firearm. He is being held in Missouri on 3 million dollars bond, and is awaiting extradition back to Illinois.
Police have not released a motive for the shooting.
