Saint Louis (KSDK) - Despite an increased police presence on Washington Avenue this weekend, another incident on the busy street sent a man to the hospital.

After a gradual decline in visibility over the course of the summer, police were again putting in an effort to curb crime.

Around 11:15 p.m. however, officers tried to pull over a car full of people hanging out of a sunroof when it refused to stop.

The car accelerated, driving around a police barricade, nearly striking two officers, and then hitting a 25 year old man at 14th street.

The man landed on the windshield of a car that was waiting at the stop light.

He is in stable condition.

Police later found the car involved in the accident abandoned in Venice, Illinois.

At this time no arrests have been made.
