St. Louis (KSDK) - The fallout continues for Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin after comments he made in a televised interview about abortion in the case of rape.
Akin was scheduled to appear on the program "Piers Morgan Tonight" but CNN says he canceled at the last minute, so they began the broadcast by showing his empty chair.
"And Congressman you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it. 'Cause if you don't keep your promise to appear on the show then you are what we call in Britain, a gutless little twerp," Morgan said.
Akin ignited a national firestorm with his comments that women's bodies are able to prevent pregnancies if they are victims of "a legitimate rape."
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Akin's comments were insulting, inexcusable, frankly wrong. President Obama called the remarks offensive.
Congressman Akin did go on Mike Huckabee's national radio show Monday to apologize.
