St. Louis (KSDK) - The weekend of August 15th was a dark one in the City of St. Louis. Eight shootings and three murders took place that weekend, and among those killed was a Chicago woman in town for an alumni event at St. Louis University.
Two teenagers have been charged with shooting her in the middle of the afternoon while trying to steal her cell phone.
It's a case that outraged the St. Louis area and one that's being used as an example for why the City of St. Louis is now changing the way it goes after criminals.
The St. Louis Police Department put out more information Monday on its new plan to go after 12 specific neighborhoods. Eight are in north St. Louis, two in midtown, and two are in south city.
St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom says they looked at homicides, robberies, assaults and shots fired when picking out these neighborhoods.
That's 60 officers working overnight until 2 a.m. for the next few weeks. We wanted to take a closer look at what can be done to stop these crimes.
