New royal photos went viral today, but for the first time in a week they didn't involve Prince Harry's naked frolicking in Las Vegas. Instead, it was his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, in the driver's seat of her Range Rover and wearing a gray hoodie.
Or something very like a hoodie. The morning shows, including Today, had the pictures, which showed the queen driving on her Scottish estate, Balmoral, after a grouse shoot. The royal family typically spends weeks in late summer at Balmoral, relaxing, fishing and shooting various critters.
The commentary on the photos was incredulous -- the queen wearing a hoodie? But it was unclear from the photos whether it was a hoodie as opposed to a scarf draped over her head. The 86-year-old monarch is so tiny that her head barely shows above the steering wheel.
The photos were a nice distraction after a week of hullabaloo over Harry's antics. Plus, husband Prince Philip is recovering after being hospitalized again, and there was that close call a few weeks ago at Balmoral when one of Her Majesty's incorrigible corgis attacked granddaughter Princess Beatrice's little terrier, who was severely injured.
By the way, the queen is the only person in the U.K. who does not need a driver's license to drive, which she rarely does anyway -- there are chauffeurs for that -- and certainly not in London.
