By Pat McGonigle
Collinsville, IL (KSDK) - In this week's installment of "Take This Job," Today in St. Louis anchor Pat McGonigle agreed to spend a day at the track. And while it was a day at the racetracks, it wasn't quite the glamour of the Kentucky Derby.
Pat spent the day as a horse groomer in the stables of Fairmount Park in Collinsville, an occupation sometimes referred to as a stable boy.
"Is there any trick to shoveling horse...stuff?" Pat asked Bobby Pace at Fairmount Park.
"I think it's a natural talent," Bobby answered and, after sizing up the newscaster added, "I think you have it."
Pat spent time with an 8-year-old thoroughbred named Holy Armenia. He cleaned hooves, brushed manes, and, yes, shoveled horse manure.
"It was a lot like cleaning a kitty litter...for a 1,200 pound cat," Pat said later.
