Madison County, IL (KSDK) - Illinois State Police say they seized $790,000 worth of cocaine Wednesday morning on eastbound Interstate 70.
Captain Brad Parsons, District 11 Commander says 7.9 kilograms of cocaine was seized around 8:40 a.m. near Pierron after an ISP trooper stopped a white SUV for speeding and following too closely.
During the investigation the trooper had reason to believe there was criminal activity, so as a precaution he asked for an ISP K-9 to arrive at the scene.
The K-9 identified the presence of an illegal substance, and a search of the vehicle uncovered seven cellophane-wrapped bundles with around 7.9 kilograms of cocaine.
The driver of the car, a 24-year-old female, and her passenger, a 28-year-old man, were arrested for drug trafficking.
The two have not been officially charged with a crime, so NewsChannel 5 is withholding their names.
