St. Louis (KSDK) - The Red Cross St. Louis Region is working with local authorities in Missouri and Illinois to prepare for possible severe weather this weekend.
The remnants of Isaac could bring several inches of rain to the area, which means and increased possibility for flooding.
Volunteers, a shelter team, and relief supplies are on stand-by.
All Red Cross disaster relief assistance is free, and they are in need of donations. To make a donation, visit their website, www.redcross.org, call 1-800-733-2767 (RED-CROSS) or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make an immediate $10 donation.
The Red Cross also offered these tips:
- Listen to area weather reports for flood and other critical warnings; be prepared to evacuate. Have a NOAA weather radio if possible.
- Stay away from floodwaters. If you come upon a flooded area, turn around. Six inches of swiftly moving water can sweep you off of your feet. Most cars can be swept away by less than two feet of water.
- Prepare your home for an emergency: have plenty of food, water, family medication, flashlights, emergency weather radio, important family documents, rain gear and supplies.
