ST. LOUIS (AP) - Former first-round draft pick Vernon Gholston, fullback Ovie Mughelli and running back Chase Reynolds were among the players cut by the St. Louis Rams.
NFL teams have until 9 p.m. EDT to get to a 53-player roster.
Gholston, the No. 6 pick in the draft by the New York Jets, did not play in 2011. He was picked up earlier in the preseason to add depth to the defensive line.
The Rams beat the Ravens 31-17 Thursday to finish the preseason at 2-2. St. Louis opens the season Sept. 9 at Detroit. Sam Bradford will try to keep pace with Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford in the opener.
"We have a tremendous challenge this week," Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. "We have an offense that can score points from all over the field. We've got to get ready to play good defense and we got to get ready to play keep away with the football."
