St. Louis County (KSDK) - A fire at Dolnick's Furniture and Design early Monday morning was likely caused by a bird's nest in the "Dolnick's" electrical sign, according to West Overland fire officials.
The fire was reported by a passerby about 4 a.m., according to co-owner Greg Dolnick, who said it's unfortunate the fire happened on Labor Day.
"Unfortunately it's a very important business holiday," said Dolnick Monday afternoon.
Dolnick said no merchandise was damaged inside the building.
"Dollar-wise, we don't have any idea yet," he said, when asked about a damage estimate. "First thing we got to call an electrician, get boarded up and get the place back to normal again.
Damage was contained to a portion of the roof and the building facade over the entrance.
Greg said Dolnick's is a third-generation, family-owned business. He said they've been in business since 1927 and at the location on Page just west of Warson since 1959.
"Anyone that comes by today we're letting them know we'll be in business from here on," said Dolnick. "And next weekend we're going to do something a little special for anyone that would have come this weekend. And extend the Labor Day Sale."
Dolnick's will likely re-open later this week.
