East St. Louis, Illinois ( KSDK ) - - Police dogs were summoned and a helicopter was requested by officers searching for three shooting suspects who bailed out of their getaway car in East St. Louis Monday night. One of the three was captured within moments.
The commotion began with a shooting in Pine Lawn about 7:30 p.m., according to chief of police Ricky Collins. He tells NewsChannel 5 that as a Pine Lawn policeman pulled up to the scene of the gunfire, three people in a Silver Pontiac Grand Am tore away.
The Pontiac got onto Interstate 70 eastbound, pulled off at Broadway, wound its way downtown to Washington Avenue, then turned east into Illinois.
At 16th and Hall, the occupants jumped out and ran.
The Pine Lawn chief says so far, there does not appear to be an actual victim of the original shooting incident.
The search was disbanded after the other two suspects could not be immediately located.
