Granite City, IL (KSDK) - Police say a Granite City teen lost control of his car and slammed into the front of the Granite City Animal Control offices in the 2900 block of Missouri Avenue.
Authorities say the accident occurred just after 12:45 a.m. Thursday when the car left the roadway without an obvious indication the driver applied the brakes and slammed into the building.
The unidentified teenager who was behind the wheel was trapped inside the wrecked car for a time and was transported to air lifted from the scene to a St. Louis Hospital after he was extricated by rescue officials.
Police aren't sure what caused the crash and there was no immediate word on the victims condition.
There were animals inside the shelter at the time of the crash but none of them were injured in the incident.
