St. Louis (KSDK)-- Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across parts of Missouri and Illinois Friday. The best chance for severe weather will occur during the afternoon into the evening hours.

A cold front will pass through the St. Louis area toward the evening rush hour. Ahead of the front, scattered showers and storms will become more numerous. Some of the storms will produce strong gusty winds, some hail, heavy rain and dangerous lightning.

Temperatures behind the front and under the storms will drop dramatically. Ahead of the front temperatures will warm well into the 80s with lower 90s possible in a few places.

The rain will diminish after midnight and some clearing will take place. A taste of autumn is in store for the weekend with highs int 70s and overnight lows in the 50s. Both Saturday and Sunday should be quite bright.
