St. Louis (KSDK) - Two St. Charles siblings who lost both parents recently got quite the surprise at Busch Stadium. They got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The rain delay couldn't put a damper on 13-year-old Serena and 11-year-old Aleks Kisseloff's night. The two have been through a lot the last few years.

Their father was killed serving our country two years ago, and two years before that their mother died of an illness.

The children, who now live with their grandparents in St. Charles, also got another surprise Friday night. They received the first-ever Veterans United Military Hero Award.

The award is a $50,000 donation from the Veterans United Foundation and was given to them in honor of their father, Sgt. Denis Kisseloff, who served in the 1141st Engineering Company of the Missouri National Guard. He was killed in 2010 while serving in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The foundation's director says the money was donated to Aleks and Serena to help pay for their education to hopefully make all of their dreams come true.

Serena says she doesn't know what she wants to do with her life just yet, but Aleks already has it all planned out. He has dreams of becoming an ornithologist, and hopefully the award will help him fulfill those dreams.
