Florissant, MO (KSDK) - A Florissant police officer was honored Monday night for his sacrifice in the line of duty.
Officer Michael Vernon was shot while responding to a burglary call on Memorial Day.
Vernon suffered a spinal cord injury and temporary paralysis in his feet.
He was awarded the Purple Heart at Florissant City Council meeting.
Ten other Florissant police officers were presented with Chief's Letters of Commendation for their actions following Officer Vernon's shooting.
