St. Charles County, MO (KSDK) - A man wanted for minor crimes gave a fake name to police Wednesday night, but it turns out that name was connected to several felonies.
Police say the incident started with a routine traffic stop.
A male driver was pulled over. He did not have proper identification on him, and neither did his female passenger. The driver gave police a false name.
When the officer ran the name the driver gave him through the system, he discovered that person was wanted for an armed robbery and other crimes.
The officer called for backup and the driver of the car drove from the scene, driving through several residential areas and down a dead-end road.
The suspect then drove down into a creek bed where he wrecked the vehicle and fled on foot.
The female passenger stayed in the car and was arrested at the scene.
Officers set up a perimeter around the area and called for air support.
Eventually the helicopter spotted the male suspect hiding in a sewer on Muegge Road, and officers moved in to make an arrest without incident.
After his arrest police discovered the man was wanted for three minor bench warrants.
The name of the suspect has not been released.
