St. Charles County, MO (KSDK) - Three men are behind bars for stealing from Chuck Berry. A neighbor reported suspicious activity at the Rock 'n Roll legend's home earlier this week.
The singer himself actually helped in the investigation telling police what was missing including one of his electric guitars, neighbors say they are shocked.
"We haven't had any trouble out here in the 40 years I've been here," said Sam Harris, who lives right across the road from the rock 'n roller for the past 40 years.
Even in Berry's heyday, Harris says it's always been a real quiet area.
"He's a nice guy and we talk a lot, he cuts grass a lot and I see him cutting grass," said Harris.
The St. Charles County Sheriff's Department says three men are arrested and being questioned about the missing items including an electric guitar, a few power washers and dozens of used car batteries.
One property on Berry's estate also received some damage, when someone stole part of the rod iron fence.
Now after the star's property has been vandalized and some belongings were stolen, Harris says his safe and secure paradise has changed.
"Made sure I locked up my barn and my garages we generally leave keys in cars and tractors but that didn't happen last night I took the keys out," said Harris.
Its not clear when the items were taken or if the suspects stole from the property more than one time. Harris says he doesn't know if the crime was aimed at Berry or if the thieves just picked a property but this crime is not a part of his everyday life.
"Just recently, I mean before we haven't had any troubles," said Harris.
For now deputies say the stolen items have not yet been recovered and there are no charges against the three men in custody.
