St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A faulty underground cable is cited by Ameren Missouri officials for an interruption to several downtown businesses, including knocking NewsChannel 5 off the air for a time Monday morning.

Ameren spokesman Kent Martin tells NewsChannel 5 they have not identified specifically what caused the underground cable to malfunction and repairs crews are assessing the problem and working at a resolution.

No specific numbers were available on the total number of downtown customers affected by the power interruption.

Power at NewsChannel 5 was completely restored at 6 a.m.
