REPRESA, Calif. (AP) - A riot that broke out at a California State Prison, Sacramento has wounded 11 inmates, including one who was shot and at least 10 others who were stabbed or slashed with a knife.
State Corrections officials say the chaos at the New Folsom prison erupted in one of the yards shortly after 11 a.m. It involved an unknown number of inmates at the maximum-security facility.
Officials say that besides using less-than-lethal force, officers using a rifle shot one inmate who was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The conditions of the 11 who were wounded have not been released.
Officials say it appears that no prison staffers have been injured.
Nearly a dozen inmates were taken to outside hospitals after a riot at the same prison in December.
