St. Louis (KSDK) -- This week a story about parents struggling with the "new, new math" their children are bringing home from grade school has been one of the most popular stories on KSDK.com.

To help demonstrate why some parents are suffering from a generation gap while helping their kids with their math homework, Today in St. Louis anchors Pat McGonigle and Jennifer Blome took a pop quiz on how to solve problems using the new approach.

Many of the new techniques involve number conceptualization strategies. Terms like "arrays" and "doubling and halving both sides of the equation" are leaving some moms and dads befuddled.

Click on the video player window on this page to see Pat McGonigle (who never got past Algebra II) explain the "new, new math" to Jennifer Blome (who wrote English essays on the back of her math tests in high school).
