Fairview Heights, Ill (KSDK) -- A woman accused of having drugs in her car was taken into police custody following a pursuit.
Fairview Heights police said the 37-year-old O'Fallon woman was stopped for a traffic violation at 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The officer's K-9 partner detected narcotics in the vehicle. The officer asked the driver to roll down her window, but she sped off heading south on Illinois Route 161.
Police said Fairview Heights police stopped pursuing the vehicle when it crossed into Belleville.
A Cahokia police officer deployed spike strips near the intersection of Illinois Route 157 and Route 15 early Monday morning. The suspect vehicle hit the strips and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department detained the woman until Fairview Heights police got to the scene.
Police said they found drug paraphernalia and a substance suspected to be cocaine.
The woman's name has not been released because charges have not been filed.
