CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A Cape Girardeau man is charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated after his car slammed into a police car parked on Interstate 55 as officers responded a man threatening to jump from an overpass.

The incident happened Sunday night. Authorities say Cape Girardeau officer James Zeidler was trying to stop traffic at the overpass where a man was threatening to jump.

Police say a Chevy Tahoe driven by 50-year-old Ronald Bollinger failed to stop and slammed into the patrol car. Zeidler was able to get out just before his car was struck and was not hurt.

The man on the overpass did not jump but is undergoing evaluation at a hospital.
