St. Louis (KSDK) - City events and state roadwork are factors making life a little more difficult for commuters heading to the downtown area into this weekend.

Eastbound Interstate 64 narrows to one lane as drivers head toward downtown for a number of events this weekend. Traffic is a bit more clogged during rush hour due to the shrinking space.

Exits along I-64 including those at 11th and 6th streets shift from open to closed as Missouri Department of Transportation workers piece together their assignments over the course of each day.

Downtown, Taste of St. Louis will block off Market Street from 12th to 15th streets for the weekend. Thursday night, Washington Avenue will also be blocked off due to the NHRA Fanfast, a celebration for the return of drag racing to Gateway Motorsports Park.

Officials with MoDOT advise the usual: leave more time, read the posted signs and plan your route before coming downtown.

Otherwise, plan on a headache.
