Van pursued by police crashes with children inside

St. Louis (KSDK) - Two adults are in custody after a police chase through north St. Louis ended in a crash downtown.

Wellston police have told NewsChannel 5 the pursuit started as a shoplifting incident in Wellston.

The suspect, a female driving a white minivan, may have struck a police officer's car when driving from the scene. She then hit a pedestrian at Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and N. Kingshighway Boulevard.

The van then crashed just north of the Edward Jones Dome at Broadway and Carr.

Four small children and an infant were taken out of the back of the van by authorities after the crash.

Two adults are in custody. Their identities have not been released.

The victim hit at Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and N. Kingshighway Boulevard has been identified as a 60-year-old male. He was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
