Chesterfield, MO (KSDK) - On Tuesday night local neighborhoods participated in the annual "National Night Out" event.
The Thousand Oaks subdivision in Chesterfield hosted an ice cream social. People locked their doors, turned on the outside lights and spent the evening outside with neighbors and police.
The goal is to send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
The Night Out events usually take place in August, but many towns postponed the events because of the extreme heat.
