St. Louis (KSDK) - KSDK will host a Medicare open enrollment phone bank and online chat for viewers Thursday.
Medicare open enrollment begins October 15 and ends December 7 for new coverage beginning January 1, 2013. During this time, people are encouraged to review new benefits and adjust their current health plan for better coverage.
From 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, trained Medicare staff and counselors will be in studio, to answer questions, provide schedules for informational sessions, and book private appointments for Medicare recipients or candidates.
KSDK viewers can participate in the phone bank, or by visiting our online web chat between 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Medicare was established in 1965 to provide affordable healthcare to retired senior citizens. Almost two million people in Missouri and Illinois depend on Medicare for drug coverage, insurance, and hospice. Qualified recipients must be at least 65-years-old and receive social security benefits. Under specific conditions, those under 65 -years-old or on disability may also receive Medicare.
