Boston (WCVB/CNN) - The FBI is on the trail of a Massachusetts man they say is linked to terrorism.

Ahmad Abousamra is a known quantity. The FBI knows a lot about him, except where he is now, and that's why they're speaking up.

"There's no specific trigger for the timing of this we just thought it was a good time in our investigation to share this information with the public bother here inside the United States as well as worldwide in hopes that a tipster will come forward," said Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge.

Abousamra, who is wanted on nine conspiracy counts, reportedly said he wanted to kill American soldiers. He was indicted in 2006 and fled the country.

"We believe he fled to the Aleppo, Syria area and so much of our efforts on this media campaign are focused to an international audience. We're using a traditional media campaign, here inside the United States, as well as using social media such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to publicize our search for him worldwide," said DesLauriers.

He may be in the company of a wife and child. His roots, says a case agent, is in Massachusetts.

"He received his degree from UMASS Boston in computer science and he's worked in the telecommunications industry. He speaks Arabic and English fluently may be using those skills today," said Heidi Williams with the FBI.

The FBI is offering $50,000 to anyone with information that leads to Abousamra's arrest.
