St. Louis (KSDK) - A mother who pleaded guilty to repeatedly smothering her 6-month-old son has been sentenced.
The mother brought the baby to SSM Cardinal Glennon in February 2010 and told doctors her son had stopped breathing.
A hospital camera caught the mother putting her hand over his nose and mouth.
A judge sentenced Samantha Garrett to 20 years in prison.
"The video is heinous. It's just so calculated and so evil what she's doing to the child. You see her come into the view, she tries to move the child to the end of the bed where she thinks it's out of camera range and she smothers him with her hands the first time. Then goes to the door to check if anyone's watching then comes back and does it again," said Assistant Circuit Attorney Colleen Lang.
The hospital staff revived the baby.
It's still too early to know whether he suffered any developmental problems.
