Salem, MO (KSDK) - Firefighters remain on the scene of a large fire at a south central Missouri charcoal wholesale facility, although the blaze is under control.

Fire officials received their first call about the fire around 9:00 Thursday night at the Royal Oaks plant on North Highway 19 at Route JJ just outside Salem in Dent County.

A massive fire was already growing at the facility that produces 'ready light' treated grilling briquettes.  The area where the plant is located is well known for its extensive timber groves and the use of white oak in the production of charcoal products.

No injuries have been reported at the fire scene which is staffed by a variety of area fire agencies including the Dent County Fire District, Salem, Rolla and St. James fire departments.  A cause for the fire has not been determined.

Calls to the Royal Oaks facility went unanswered this morning.
