Edwardsville, IL (KSDK) - Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville is considering a request to remove the popular Chick-fil-A restaurant from campus.
According to a student senate resolution, a Chick-fil-A foundation supports anti-gay organizations.
Chick-fil-A has been at Morris Eenter on the SIUE campus for about 15 years, but it wasn't until recently that some students said it was time to remove the franchise.
The student senate resolution accuses Winshape, Chick-fil-A's foundation, of donating nearly $2 million to groups that seek to fight, ban or oppress equal fights for sexual minorities. Chick-fil-A did not return our phone call seeking comment.
Students, staff and administration will be involved in discussions about the franchise's future on campus.
The company will also be welcome to have its say.
Opinions about Chick-fil-A on campus are mixed.
SIUE administrators said they'll make a decision no later than early next spring.
