Phoenix (KPHO/CNN) - It took 25 years, but investigators have finally identified a teenage accident victim.
John Bryan Moore, 16, died in a 1987 car accident and was buried as a John Doe in a cemetery in Tempe, Arizona.
Last year his body was exhumed.
Detectives just figured out he was reported missing out of California six months before his death.
Investigators held a news conference with Moore's family Monday.
"I know a lot people are probably thinking, 'Well, how could this child be buried for 24 years and, you know, he must not have been loved or he must have been bad or something must have happened because you find them.' I can tell you firsthand, I'm in law enforcement, I've been in it 12 years and don't think we didn't love my brother or look for him," said his sister, Joella Moore.
Investigators identified Moore through DNA samples, photographs, a postmortem sketch, personal effects and a tattoo on his body.
