EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (AP) - A federal jury has cleared two Alton police officers in a lawsuit brought by a man who claimed they used excessive force in subduing him at a hospital.
The (Alton) Telegraph reports jurors in East St. Louis sided with Stephen January and Andrew Pierson and two Alton Memorial Hospital workers who Harry Huddleston sued.
The newspaper says the officers were summoned to the hospital in December 2008 after Huddleston became involved in a scuffle with a hospital security guard.
The officers used a stun gun to get Huddleston under control. Huddleston claimed in his lawsuit that their actions violated his civil rights.
