St. Charles, MO (KSDK) - Three eastbound lanes on Blanchette Bridge will be closed this weekend as crews ultimately prepare for the long-term closure of the westbound side of the bridge, the Missouri Department of Transportation said Wednesday.
According to Linda Wilson Horn, a MoDOT spokeswoman, the three eastbound lanes will be shut down from 8 p.m. Friday, October 19 until 5 a.m. Sunday, October 21. At least two of the eastbound lanes will stay open for traffic during that period.
MoDOT crews will be restriping the eastbound Blanchette Bridge to six lanes to handle both directions of traffic beginning in the first weekend of November, Horn said. The regular five eastbound lanes will be reopened to traffic in that direction on October 22.
The westbound Blanchette Bridge will be closed for less than a year.
Horn said the ramps from northbound and southbound Fifth Street to eastbound I-70 will also be closed from 8 p.m. Friday, October 19 until 8 a.m. Saturday, October 20 for safety reasons. Commuters can use Veterans Memorial Drive to Route 94 as an alternate route to eastbound I-70.
Drivers are being advised to use Route 370 and Route 364 as alternate routes for crossing the Missouri River.
