Dexter, MO (KSDK) - An elderly Missouri Bootheel man was killed Thursday after he was struck by a runaway pick-up truck that began rolling from a parking lot.

Investigators with the Missouri Highway Patrol tell NewsChannel 5 the incident unfolded around 9:00 a.m. Thursday at a lot in the 13,000 block of Highway 25 North in Stoddard County, in far southeast Missouri.

The vehicle involved was an unoccupied GMC pick-up truck that began rolling to the south in the parking lot.  That's when 82 year old Audie Maze of Bloomfield tried to get inside the rolling truck and was run over by the vehicle.

The runaway pick-up continued to roll backwards and crashed into a parked car.

Maze was pronounced dead at the crash scene which is in the City of Dexter.
