East St. Louis (KSDK) - Assistant Police Chief Ronald Ike now confirms that three of the four shooting victims have been released from the hospital after being caught in the crossfire in East St. Louis.
The shooting happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of N. 42nd Street and Bushmore.
Police say a group of men exited a maroon colored van in the neighborhood. Ike says they were armed with at least one AK-47 used in the shooting.
The men opened fire in the neighborhood, first striking a 68-year-old woman who was driving a car nearby. The bullets then traveled to a nearby home and struck three men.
A male victim remains at Saint Louis University Hopsital in stable but critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. Meanwhile a third man was transported from Memorial Hospital Monday evening where he was released after refusing treatment.
There were conflicting reports about the woman who was shot. Chief Ike says she was struck in her upper body, yet treated and released.
Police do not believe any of the victims were the targets of the shooting.
