WENTZVILLE, Mo. (AP) - Wentzville Mayor Nick Guccione will be at an anti-heroin rally in his St. Charles County town next month, and the reason is personal: Guccione's 18-year-old niece died of an overdose earlier this year.

The Wentzville rally starting at noon on Nov. 3 is among several anti-heroin rallies planned in the St. Louis area.

The Drug Enforcement Administration has cited heroin as a growing concern, even in suburban and rural areas. Today's heroin is often much more pure than in years past, and that purity can be fatal.

Guccione told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/RuRIuo ) that he doesn't believe Wentzville is a drug hotbed, but he says he wants to get in front of the heroin problem before it gets worse. ___ Information from: St. Louis Post-Dispatch, http://www.stltoday.com
