Bellleville, IL (KSDK)-- A student who attends Southwestern Illinois College was arrested for bringing a gun onto campus Thursday.

Mike Fleming, a spokesperson for the college says campus security officers received a tip about possible drug activity on campus around 2:30pm Thursday and searched a student who was thought to be involved.

The student was found to have a firearm in his possession but no drugs and was taken into custody of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department.

Fleming says the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department and SWIC Public Safety will jointly investigate the incident and criminal charges could follow.
