St. Louis, Mo. (KSDK) -- Local disaster relief workers from the Red Cross are heading right for the path of Hurricane Sandy.

The volunteers will provide support in the affected areas. Saturday, to deal with the coming threat, the number of volunteers went up from eight in the region, to twelve.

On top of that, two additional emergency vehicles had been added bringing that number to four. It's all part of an effort to keep pace Sandy.

They'll add to the more than 100 active red cross vehicles ready to assist for this weather event.

If things take a turn for the worse, the federally operated Missouri Task Force One is also gearing up and ready.

They are one of 28 disaster relief teams across the country trained to take on the very worst.

Members of the Missouri squad have assisted in Hurricane Katrina, Rita and September 11th.

The Task Force is activated by FEMA.
