Staunton, IL (KSDK) - A 32-year-old Livingston, Illinois woman was arrested over the weekend in connection with a hit and run accident in Staunton, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
According to Captain William Dimitroff, a sheriff's office spokesman, the accident took place Saturday, October 27 just before 10:40 p.m. in the 1100 block of Williamson Street. The caller told dispatchers that a white car struck a home and drove away from the scene.
Deputies responded to scene, saw the damage on the house, and began talking to witnesses, who explained the driver fled the scene in the direction of Staunton, Illinois. Meanwhile, Staunton police located the vehicle, a white Nissan Maxima, on Old Route 66 at Reservoir Road. The vehicle had damage consistent with the scene of the crash.
A sheriff's deputy responded to Old Route 66 and met with the driver of the vehicle, identified as Bess Kellebrew, Dimitroff said.
Kellebrew displayed signs of being intoxicated and failed field sobriety testing, Dimitroff said. She was arrested and booked for driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of a traffic accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
Bess Kellebrew was transported to Madison County Jail and held on a $100 cash bond.
